I Rode a Dirt Bike, Once.

I'm Matthew Callaway.
I like to travel, write, and build websites. You can call me Matt.

This Guy Matt.

What Can I Say?

I’m Matt, I'm interested in sciencey stuff like physics and neurology, internet culture, technology, and sleep deprivation, but my true love is travel. I was literally born traveling as my parents meandered through Europe. Since then I’ve walked the Inca Trail and worked in a fair-trade chocolate factory in the Amazon, spent weeks camping in the Kalahari desert, paddled the Zambezi river, and Bungee jumped off Victoria Falls.

I remember the anticipation waiting while the modem whined, I still do a pretty good 28.8kb impression. Most potently though I remember being profoundly disappointed with what I found when the screen resolved and mythical cyberspace revealed itself to me. I was expecting a dynamic, interactive experience and what I got was rigid and static. I thought I was going to connect with new and interesting people and only found strangers. I stuck with it, and every time a new function or innovation in internet technology emerged I was rewarded for my patience. The sites I built a decade or more ago are laughable now, but of course they were written in only simple html on Notepad, as most were back then. Fun times. Today I'm proficient in html, css, php and always learning more, and I still code in Notepad sometimes to stay on my toes.

What I Do.

I enjoy building websites and solving problems and I like connecting people, organizations and businesses to the vast and ever expanding world of the internet, I like being connected to it as well. The way I see it the more interconnected the internet is the more versatile and functional it can be.

  • Web Design

I have been building and maintaining websites since the nineties when it was just a hobby. As it became a profession I was amazed at how much there was to learn and how fast the technology advances. As it does advance I'm very excited by the possibilities of information technology to actually connect people to each other and their world, not distract from it. I'm a firm believer that a more interconnected planet will result in happier, better humans. Who doesn't like that?

  • Travel

Mark Twain famously wrote "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow mindedness., and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts." but if that isn't good enough there are exotic foods, cultures and strange beers at odd temperatures. Also, our world is huge, round for the record, and huge.

  • Farming

I worked for several years farming organically to counter balance my web-work. If you notice I have a tan it might mean I have been working and not that I have been on vacation.

  • ECig Fluid

I make my own ecig fluid, it's better than cigarettes and if you would like to swap recipes I'd be happy to oblige.
